2012 Tree Steward Training Class

Every Tuesday (February 21 - May 22)

  • Fourteen Tuesday morning classes (Begins 21 February through 22 May 2012.) on tree identification, tree biology, roots and soil, proper planting and care, pruning, tree pests, and more.
  • Presenters: Certified arborists, foresters, tree stewards and others.
  • Following the tree steward training class, volunteer 25 hours per year on CATS projects. A Tree Steward Certificate is awarded after completion of the first 25 hours of volunteer work. Commit to use the knowledge and skills gained to protect and develop the urban and community forests in the area. Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards is a nonprofit supported by the Virginia Urban Forest Council (Trees Virginia) and by the Cooperative Extension office in Charlottesville. It began in June 2008, hold monthly meetings to continue our education, and partner with community groups to work on tree-related projects.

Admission Fee/Ticket Price:

$85; $125 for couples. Fee includes manual & books. 4 Field Trips to area trees.
