aldie millIn the summer of 1861, enthusiastic volunteers in colorful uniforms gathered to fight the first major land battle of the war. Confident that their foes would turn and run, neither side anticipated the smoke, din and death of battle. Nearly one year later, both sides met again on the same battlefield with the Confederates winning a solid victory bringing them to the height of their power.

A curriculum-based education program.
Virginia Studies, History and Social Science and United States History to 1877

Bridging the Watershed
Grades: High School
A curriculum-based natural sciences. This program is conducted within the park, but is coordinated through the Alice Furguson Foundation. Further information can be found at www.fergusonfoundation.org , or by calling 301-292-5665

Other Site Features of Interest to Students and Teachers

Self-guided programs and Ranger-guided programs for groups with specific special interests are available as well. Please contact the park at least a month in advance for special arrangements.
A scavenger hunt worksheet is available to facilitate the visits of elementary school students to the museum within the Visitor Center.
A Junior Ranger program is available for children between six and twelve years of age.
A 45 minute-long film; Manassas: End of Innocence, is shown daily every hour, on the hour, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There is an admission charge of $3 for individuals who are sixteen years of age and older. Students under sixteen years of age may view the film free of charge as long as they are accompanied by an adult leader.

Program fees and miscellaneous  

Maximum Number of Students: 100   Minimum:  N/A.

Admission/Program Fee: The park has a $3 entrance fee for anyone sixteen years of age and older. This fee can be waived for bona fide educational groups that are pursuing curriculum objectives through their visit to the park. All education programs are free of charge. Contact the park for further details.

Handicap Accessibility: The Visitor Center is ADA compliant. Education programs are frequently conducted outdoors on level park trails which are manageable for individuals in wheelchairs who have the assistance of a fellow group member.

Bus/Vehicle Accessibility: Bus and automobile parking is available within one hundred yards of the Visitor Center doors.

Season of Operation: Year-round

Hours of Operation: Visitor Center is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Education programs are available any hour between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Park grounds are open daily from dawn until dusk.

Picnic facilities/Nearest restaurant options: The park has two picnic grounds. Both are located approximately one mile away from the Visitor Center. Numerous restaurants are located on VA234 within five miles of the park.

Restroom accessibility: The Visitor Center restrooms are ADA compliant
