Winter Gourmet Tour Packages

The Gourmet tours are presented in partnership with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia and the Virginia Tourism Corporation and, in Orange County, Orange County Department of Tourism, Orange Downtown Alliance, and the Inn at Meander Plantation, the Mayhurst Inn, the Holladay House, and Montpelier. In Albemarle County, the tour is presented in partnership with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Dinsmore House, the Inn at Monticello, the Inn at Court Square and Monticello.

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Partnership, with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia and regional heritage sites, presents weekend travel packages designed to appeal to the gourmand and the history buff in everyone.  The weekend packages will be offered in both Albemarle and Orange Counties, Jan. 25-27, and will combine cooking classes with fine dining and wines, tours of Presidential homes including Monticello and Montpelier, and a two-night stay in some of the most charming B&B’s in the region.

The price for the tour, inclusive of two-night accommodations, breakfast and dinner, activities, tours and guided travel, taxes and gratuities, is based on double occupancy and is $600 for the weekend in Orange, Virginia, and $800 for Charlottesville, Virginia. Only 20 places are available for each package.

Taste the Journey—Orange County, Virginia

  • Cooking class and lunch at the Inn at Meander Plantation
  • Visit to Montpelier, the home of James Madison, to witness its restoration (for those opting out of the cooking class)
  • Barrel-tasting & tour of the Prince Michel Vineyards & Winery, followed by a wine & cheese reception
  • Return to the Inn at Meander Plantation for more fine dining with a seasonally-inspired, five-course dinner
  • Your choice of a two-night stay at: the Inn at Meander Plantation, the Mayhurst Inn or the Holladay House

  • Tour of Monticello by food historian, Dr. Leni Sorensen, cooking class and a gourmet lunch at the Clifton Inn
  • "Jefferson & Wine" presentation and wine tasting by
    Gabriele Rausse, head viticulturist at Monticello
