Waterford, VA – The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Partnership, with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia and regional heritage sites, is launching weekend travel packages designed to appeal to the artist, the gourmand and the history buff in everyone. The first two weekend packages will be offered in both Albemarle and Orange Counties, Dec. 7-9, and will combine heritage-themed craft workshops with fine dining, tours of Presidential homes including Monticello and Montpelier, and a two-night stay in some of the most charming B&B’s in the region. The price, inclusive of two-night accommodations, breakfast and dinner, activities, tours and guided travel, taxes and gratuities, is $560 based on double occupancy. “This is the perfect excuse to take some time for yourself before the crush of the holiday season by experiencing a weekend that will inspire the artist, and visionaries, in all of us,” said Paul McDonald, Director of Traveler Services for the Journey Through Hallowed Ground Partnership.

The JTHG Partnership will also offer two gourmand tours packages in Orange and Albemarle counties, January 25-27, 2008, where visitors will “Taste the Journey,” with cooking classes, lectures, wine tasting and more.

Package Details:

A Weekend Crafts Tour Inspired by Presidents—Montpelier and Orange County
Some highlights on the Orange County tour include: a welcome dinner at the Inn at Meander Plantation, with overnight accommodations at The Inn at Meander Plantation, the Mayhurst Inn, or the Holladay House; hands-on classes at the Arts Center in Orange on holiday greenery, basket weaving and ornament making; lunch at the cozy Elmwood at Sparks; a special guided tour of Montpelier and a landscape painting class on-site. Cost: $560 per person and includes all tax and gratuities, and two-night accommodations. Based on availability.

On the Albemarle County tour, highlights include: a stay at the Dinsmore House, the Inn at Monticello or the Inn at Court Square; a special welcome dinner at the C&O Restaurant; classes in Ashlawn Highland’s gardens on paper quilling, holiday greenery and tin ornaments and lunch on-site from Charlottesville’s Brix Marketplace. At Monticello, guests will be given a special behind-the-scenes tour and wreath-making class led by its garden staff. Cost: $560 per person and includes all tax and gratuities, and two-night accommodations. Based on availability.

The Arts & Crafts tours are presented in partnership with the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia and the Virginia Tourism Corporation and, in Orange County, Orange County Department of Tourism, Orange Downtown Alliance, and the Inn at Meander Plantation, the Mayhurst Inn, the Holladay House, the Arts Center in Orange, Elmwood at Sparks, Corner House Gallery and Montpelier. In Albemarle County, the tour is presented in partnership with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Dinsmore House, the Inn at Monticello, the Inn at Court Square, the C&O Restaurant, Ashlawn Highland, Brix Marketplace and Monticello.
