The Legacy of leadership: Choices that shaped a nation and defined a people

Rising ninth through eleventh graders across the nation are invited to take the Extreme Journey High School Camp, a two week leadership immersion program that places students where pivotal decisions shaped our nation.

What hung in the balance as Thomas Jefferson labored over the text of the Declaration of Independence? What did George Gilmore gain by staying in the south after the Emancipation Proclamation? Was Clara Barton out of line on the battlefield? And what if John Brown had stalled at Harpers Ferry? We’ll look at the consequences of these decisions and others as we hike, bike, canoe and pod along the historic Old Carolina trail from Gettysburg Battlefield to Madison’s Montpelier.

In addition to developing leadership skills, participants will create vodcasts using original photographs, video clips and sound bites gathered while visiting the historic sites. This material along with original music and literary pieces will be combined to create dynamic movies that explain lessons of leadership learned along this Hallowed Ground.

How to Apply for Journey High School Camp 2008 »

Thomas Jefferson said, “It is worth a Journey across the Atlantic to experience the riches of this land.” and that was before many of the people along the Journey lived and died and thought and fought to create the America that we cherish today. Join us as we examine the legacy of leadership that shaped our nation and continues to impact our world today. Take the Extreme Journey during the summer of 2008!
