Tentative Itinerary
In Partnership with the UVA Summer Enrichment Program.  June 22 – July 3, 2008

Sunday

  • Welcome
  • Dinner on UVA Grounds
  • Evening orientation with the University of Virginia SEP staff 

Monday

  • James Monroe interpreter introduces students to Ashlawn-Highland and the accomplishments of this Virginia statesman.  
  • Afternoon session at Monticello to include tour and contemporary application of the Declaration of Independence
  • Breakfast and lunch off UVA Grounds
  • Return to UVA by 5:30pm for dinner an evening session with SEP

Tuesday

  • Computer lab day for vodcast production
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner on UVA Grounds
  • Evening session with SEP

Wednesday

  • Biking and morning program at Gettysburg Battlefield
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner off UVA Grounds
  • Dinner at The Cozy restaurant in Thurmont, MD
  • Return after evening session with SEP

Thursday

  • Morning program at Montpelier to focus on contributions of James Madison as well as freed slave, George Gilmore
  • Afternoon Vodcast production
  • Breakfast and lunch off UVA Grounds
  • Dinner on Grounds and evening session with SEP

Friday

  • Morning interactive program at Harpers Ferry to include an historical scavenger hunt through the village and John Brown simulation. 
  • Afternoon bike tour of Antietam with an introduction to the contributions of Clara Barton
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner off UVA Grounds
  • Return after evening session with SEP

Saturday

  • Planned by UVA Summer Enrichment Program
  • 2:00 – 5:00pm Vodcast production (Optional)

Sunday

  • Planned by UVA Summer Enrichment Program
  • 9am – 4:30pm Vodcast production (Optional)
  • Evening session with SEP

Monday

  • Canoeing on the Potomac to the Battle of Ball’s Bluff with a guided tour by Professor John Phillips
  • Evening dinner and session at Dodona Manor to examine the contributions of General George C. Marshall
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner off UVA Grounds
  • Return after evening session with SEP

Tuesday

  • Vodcast production
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner on UVA Grounds
  • Evening session with SEP

Wednesday

  • Vodcast production
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner on UVA Grounds
  • Evening session with SEP

Thursday

  • Present final vodcasts followed by closing remarks from contemporary leader.
