The Journey is Endangered Print E-mail

A Twenty-first Century Solution to a Twentieth Century Problem

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground has been recognized by national historians as the region which holds more American History than any other swath of land in the country. It is home to internationally significant and unique historical, cultural, scenic and natural legacies.

“Although the region recovered from the Civil War, it could never recover from the blacktop and concrete revolution that threatens it today. To pave over the northern Piedmont would pave over much of America’s past—permanently. But that does not have to happen. If they are wisely planned, growth and preservation can march hand in hand.”
Princeton University Professor of American History, James M. McPherson

You CAN help. Get Involved »

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground is a four state collaborative to find a 21st-century solution to balance economic development and historic preservation. Our Partners and Advisory Council support their communities, inspire the future, and work to honor this hallowed ground.

You Can Create History...
The Journey Through Hallowed Ground benefits all American citizens by respecting, protecting and celebrating the places where the documents of democracy were written, where the blood was shed to preserve the ideal of a united democracy, and where the ideal of American democracy was shared with the world when Gen. Marshall sat in his home and wrote the Marshall Plan. Whether the citizen is a resident, a commuter or a visitor, each will be inspired by the heritage that created these remarkable moments in history—and will be imbued with the sense that they, too, can create history.
