The Museum is located in a restored two-story home built in 1820, by Frederick physician Dr. John Baltzell, in the heart of Historic Downtown Frederick. It is also the office of the Historical Society of Frederick County.

Guided tours, special exhibitions and the Society's rich collection of decorative and fine arts tell the story of Frederick County from the Colonial period, through the Civil War, to the present day.

The Society's exquisite collection of tall case clocks is a 'must see.' The Museum's Heritage Garden, provides beauty, as well as educational experiences.

Researchers will enjoy discovering the wealth of materials in the Society's Research Library, and a variety of historical books and related items can be found in the bookstore. Educational programs and tours for children and adults are available from the Historical Society.
