The c.1801 Caleb Rector House was the site of the formation of the 43rd Virginia Cavalry, Mosby's Rangers, in 1863. It also was a Civil War hospital and the site of two separate encampments of JEB Stuart in June 1863 during the Battle of Upperville. It currently houses the Mosby Heritage Area, which has been going in to local schools to teach local history since 1995.
