Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site tells the story of the 1954 court case, Brown v. Board of Education, that dismantled the 1896 court ruling “separate but equal.” The case was victorious with a unanimous Supreme Court ruling stating “We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of ‘separate but equal’ has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal segregation in public education is a denial of the equal protection of the laws.” Receiving this victory played a vital role in helping to change the course of America for the future.
