A unique presidential, multi-cultural and agricultural museum; the first in the U.S. to honor James Madison, Jr. Our collection consists of a diverse mix of artifacts that includes documents, textiles, farm equipment, conveyances, presidential artifacts and  a 1733 tenant farmhouse built for Alexander Spotswood. Our exhibit rooms: Presidents, Black History, Native American, Hall of Agriculture & Transportation, and a temporary exhibit space.

Members are admitted free of charge and receive a 10% discount on Gift Shop purchases. Beginning January 1, 2021 Admission fees are: Adult (18-64) $10; Seniors, Military and 1st Responders $6; Youth (6-17) $3; under 6 is free of charge. We hope you will visit soon."

With 6,000 square feet of exhibits, the average visitor enjoys a little over an hour’s visit.

PARKING: An easy walk from Main Street. There is a parking area on our side lot (Church Street), handicap- at the door, street parking and adjacent parking at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church.

GROUP TOURS: We welcome group tours and appreciate advanced notice.

The Town of Orange is home to wonderful restaurants, B&B’s, vineyards/wineries and marvelous antique shops. The Exchange Hotel in Gordonsville is a mere 20 minutes’ drive. James Madison’s Montpelier is 10 minutes away. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains are less than an hour away. A mere 30 minutes will have to at Jefferson’s Monticello and Monroe’s Highland House at Ashlawn. Civil War Battlefields within 30 minutes: Wilderness (& Ellwood Manor), Chancellorsville and Cedar Creek.
